McKinsey Global Institute predicts by 2025 one TRILLION objects will be connected to the Internet. The “Internet of Things” won’t stop with a connected phone or desktop but will include a vast swath of the home, vehicles, offices, manufacturing spaces and yes, people.

This Internet of Things is being driven by the plummeting cost of sensors and the electronics used to deploy them, creating unprecedented opportunities for Makers to shape our future. The MakerStation will be focusing on Summer programming to build awareness of the opportunities and transfer the skills needed to be part of this revolution.

Tech-on-Tap will be kicking of our Summer of Making with a panel discussion featuring experts on the Internet of Things. Our panel includes:

Don Treadaway – Flanders Electric (a global leader in connected sensor electric motors and drives)

Art Chlebowski – USI (PhD work in in-vivo pressure sensing with wireless powered and connected devices)

Jill Snyder – Haier America ( Haier America is a wholly owned subsidiary of Haier Group, the world’s #1 major appliance brand and a global leader in consumer electronics. Haier is a leader in the development of connected appliances)

Chris Boeke – Vectren ( IT Director – guiding Vecten’s IoT Strategy)

Edgar Hilton – Seeq ( PhD work related to magnetic bearings, works for Seeq a Seattle company doing analytics tools for manufacturing process data)

Nate Kamrath – Embedded systems software engineer and half of the brother team developing the SamDuino, a kick-A Arduino killer prototyping board

This event is part of Evansville’s Indiana Entrepreneurship Week Activities

There will be a Food Truck Extravaganza | Main Street between Second and Fourth streets, 4:30–8 p.m. Food available for purchase from Nom Food Truck, Chill Zone, Chino Taco, and River City Dawgs

AND

Moonlight Madness on Main Street | Main Street, 6–9 p.m.

Check out the recent growth of downtown retail. This special evening will include open houses and shopping experiences at Out of the Box, Decades of Design, Swift Athletics, River City Mercantile, Y Factor Studio, and Jules Specialty Grocery & Gift Shop. Street musicians will enhance the shopping experience.
