Technology Commercialization Academy 2014 Pitches Tech on Tap

Event Details

  • Date:

You may be surprised to know that you have paid for important R&D and now have access to license that intellectual property for commercial development. If you pay Federal income taxes, you help fund some 700 Federal research laboratories which perform an incredible array of research. Congress decided that since we pay for this research, we should have access to unclassified portions for commercial purposes.

Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center, an hour up I-69, is a research juggernaut and has been at the forefront of pushing their intellectual property out for public use. One of the biggest problems Crane has faced, is they are so focused on the military use of their technologies, they really don’t do the best job of thinking about other applications. A, not seeing the forest for the trees sort of deal. Enter T.C.A.

The University of Southern Indiana Technology Commercialization Academy is an award winning Summer program which brings together student teams to examine the Crane IP catalog, ideate around those technologies, develop a commercialization plan and finally prototype a commercial application. The teams are purposely built around multi-disciplines, blending disparate skill sets such as engineering, business, marketing and communications. The results from the first two academies have been outstanding.

Tech on Tap is very pleased to provide the venue for TCA 2014 teams to pitch their work to our group.
