Please join our panel as they offer insights about remote work and reasons they choose to work from Evansville given their new freedom to work from anywhere.

As early as 1987 economists noted trends of people deciding first where they wanted to live and next where they wanted to work. ( ref: Hicks and Falk ). This has created shockwaves, and denial, in the traditional community economic development model of offering taxpayer funded incentives to employers expecting people to move seeking jobs created by those incentives. Strategies now are recognizing a region’s tangible and intangible “Quality of Place” assets, which give people a sense of wellbeing and satisfaction, as key drivers of a community’s economic viability. A quality workforce appears much more likely to attract quality employers than the converse.

The nature of the workplace shifted dramatically as businesses pivoted to address the challenges of COVID. What many believe was already a solid trend toward remote work suddenly accelerated and singular opportunities for communities to attract or retain remote workers have emerged. Cities from Boise, ID to Bristol, TN have seen large in-migrations of highly skilled, highly compensated remote workers – but not by chance. Cities as close as Fishers, Bloomington and Jasper have programs actively marketing to and recruiting remote workers. Evansville – not so much….
