MakerStation – Help us create the MakerCourse curriculum

Event Details

  • Date:

Join us to discuss subject matter and format for our upcoming MakerCourses

MakerStation has been in our crawling phase as we try out a number of formats and ideas.

People have literally flocked to MakerStation when we have offered classes. We have seen 9 year olds working beside 59 year olds – both grinning ear to ear as they take control of technology.

We are now standing and beginning to walking.

This Fall we plan to break into our full stride but need your help!

USI assistant professor of engineering Art Chlebowski has stepped forward to offer his enthusiastic support in developing and teaching a series of MakerCourses at MakerStation. Art completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Purdue and brings expertise in engineering, materials, electronics, prototyping, teaching AND has been a co-founder of a medical device company.

We what we lack, is knowing EXACTLY what YOU want!

This event is for you to give feedback on our first five proposed MakerCourses and to let us know others you would like. Here’s what we’re thinking:

Prototyping 1
A prototyping course aimed at introducing participants to the basic functions and interactions of 3D CAD design programs and the capabilities of prototyping those designs.  Participants will use a 3D prototyping machine to convert their designs to reality.

Prototyping 2
A prototyping course aimed at teaching participants to understand the specific capabilities of prototyping equipment.  Using concepts from Prototyping 1, participants will be given an understanding as to when specific prototyping equipment (CNC, Laser, 3D prototyping machine) are necessary and how their 3D CAD designs need to be manipulated to meet the specifications of a piece of prototyping equipment.

Arduino
The Arduino course is for hardware programmers of all levels with respect to the Arduino micro controller.  This course will have to capability of introducing programming concepts to introductory users, while having the capability of enhancing the understanding for more advanced users utilizing peripheral devices.

Coding 1
This coding course is an introductory course for those who have never stepped foot inside the world of software computer programming.  Beginning with basic concepts of how the system works, concepts introduced will include simple coding, flow charts and pseudocode, inputs/outputs, functions, and loops & logic

Coding 2
This coding course is for those who have an advanced understanding of software programming.  Participants will learn how to interact with peripherals and systems within the software, giving the participant more control of their system.

Come be part of guiding this initiative!

IMPORTANT NOTES:

This is event is FREE and open to all.

We will be serving pizza and soft drinks.

Entrance Doors to Innovation Pointe lock at 7p.m.
