If you have been following Tech-on-Tap you know we believe Evansville is poised to execute on two revolutionary trends..The Internet of Things (IoT) and co-located businesses.

If you see Mike Eppler pitch Kitera, you will be a believer too!

The Internet of Things is the term used to describe the vast number of devices connected to the internet. Predictions are for ONE TRILLION sensors to be connected by 2025. You may think in terms of your fitbit, smart phone and thermostat, but the range of connected devices is growing wildly.

For the IoT to realize its potential two major problems must be solved: connecting disparate devices and finding meaning in the data produced through those connections.

Kitera makes the connection part seamless for the end user. They are also working with Artificial Intelligence tools like IBM’s Watson to create actionable analysis of collected data.

Like other local Tech-on-Tap featured startups: Ditto(San Francisco), Curvo Labs(San Diego), Sproutary(Minneapolis) and Microbide(Dublin, Ireland); Kitera is co-located in Italy. As with the others, Kitera is finding Evansville brings compelling reasons for a business location.

Mike Eppler has a long history of assisting foreign multi-national companies get established in the United States.  On his last project, Mike started working with Andrea Guidorossi with website and marketing development for an Italian Bamboo Company.  Mike quickly realized that Andrea and his brother Matteo had developed the hardware and the back end software to connect, control, and collect aggregated data – the IoT.  The birth of Kitera has been the understanding and implementation of the inter-connection of the sensor, platform-network, and application layers as they communicate and generate data.

Kitera is a C-Corp domiciled in the State of Indiana.  Evansville and the Southwest Indiana Tech Corridor was chosen because of the growing tech talent pool in the area, the exceptional university system and its STEM emphasis, the incentives offered by the State of Indiana, and the regional opportunities to grow such a business.  The presentation will cover the IoT as a business venture; the capabilities of such a software across industries, and the concrete applications that Kitera has used for the healthcare Industry.
