USI Innovation Lab, 2nd Floor of Innovation Pointe – Doors open at 5:30 p.m./ Food at 5:30 p.m.
Free to attend, open to all to join us!
University of Southern IndianaâÂÂs Eagle Innovation Accelerator will be providing a presentation and related discussion with Dr. Will Hawkins on âÂÂEmerging Markets in Biotech and Fitness TechâÂÂ. This event will be the first of a series of events held on the last Tuesday of each month designed to bring subject matter experts to the table to introduce emerging trends and hot topics in their particular field of expertise. During this event, Dr. Hawkins will be discussing:
Gene Editing Technologies and the types of problems they might solve
Consumer Genomics: Fitness and Nutrition based on DNA
Wearable Technology Sensory Trends
Dr. Will Hawkins is new to USI from the University of Kansas where he taught Exercise Physiology and Biology courses while earning his PhD in Exercise Physiology. Dr. Hawkinsâ research line has centered on exploring the effects of physical therapy techniques on growth and repair mechanisms in human skeletal muscle. To accomplish this, Dr. Hawkins has utilized a number of in-vivo and ex-vivo techniques (skeletal muscle biopsies). Moving forward, Dr. Hawkins wishes to utilize gene sequencing techniques to explore the role of genetic polymorphisms on muscle recovery following intense exercise or stress.
We will announce future topics at the event, as well as make them available here.
Note: We will only be able to accommodate 50 people due to size of the venue.
