Tech-on-Tap

Community Entrepreneurship – YOU can change OUR world!

Event Details

  • Date:

Real change is the product of taking risks. Brad Feld’s Boulder Thesis recognizes that serious innovation originates with individuals or small groups…not from government or institutions. (This is not a criticism but a recognition that organizational overhead necessary to operate large entities generally gets in the way of risk taking and innovation) Feld sees the role of government and institutions as “Feeders”, providing resources to support the innovation “Leaders”.

Since at least the February 2012 Startup Weekend Evansville v1.0, Evansville has experienced a renaissance driven by Community Entrepreneursdoers whose efforts make Evansville a great place to live and do business. In a series of events Tech-on-Tap will bring their stories, from inspiration to execution to their future.

We hope by recognizing these works we inspire and empower others to follow.

Our first event will feature:

Jason Burton – Evansville Podcast: Jason is an IT consultant who can work remotely from just about anywhere. He and his wife were feeling disconnected from the community living in the suburbs and thinking about moving to another city. Jason started attending Tech-on-Tap events and meeting really cool people he was surprised to find living in the same town. Jason had always wanted to try podcasting and now had his subject matter. Jason has surpassed  100 episodes exposing the often unknown amazing people, businesses and initiatives in Evansville

Alex Maurer – <a href=”http://www.parksfestevansville.com/”>Parksfest: Tired of hearing Evansville was a horrible place to live, Alex Mourer had the crazy idea to stage a FREE music festival showcasing Evansville’s great parks and music scene. 4000 people also thought this was a great idea and attended Parksfest 2014, twice that number in 2015.

Malcolm Cook – Alhambra Film Festival: Malcolm loves film and he loves the Alhambra Theatre. Malcolm had the crazy idea of launching an international film festival in Evansville with proceeds benefiting his beloved Alhambra. Well 250 film makers from more than 16 countries thought it was a great idea too. They submitted their films and 125 were chosen for exhibition at the Alhambra Film Festival 1.0 in 2015. One film has gone on to receive an Oscar nomination.
